: Hi there,

: I don't know too much about flying squirrels, or Chinchillas. What I do know is that the Sugar Glider is the best pet I have ever had. I love cats and dogs, but you cannot carry one of those around in your pocket or your purse all day long, could you? I got Milo for X-Mas. He was about 3 or 4 days out of the pouch at that time. I keep thinking about getting him a playmate for night time. I had Milo neutered for the purpose of getting another female (I cannot take on the responsibility of breading). I have heard that females can be less friendly, but they all have a different personality so it is hard to tell what kind of luck you would have. If you know up front that you do not have at least 2 hours/day to spend with your pet (even in your pocket), then you probably don't have the time at all, not even for a pair. Allthough you don't have to spend as much time with a pair, you still want them to know who you are, and to be somewhat bonded to you. Bonding is one of the greatest joys of owning this kind of pet. If you do not have the time to bond with one, get a pair so that they don't get lonley. As long as they have each other, you won't have to spend as much time with them. About the biting...Milo likes to bite, but not in an agressive way. It is necessary to keep branches and chewable things in the cage because Sugar Gliders naturally like to nibble things, it keeps their teeth trimmed. Their teeth will grow too long if they don't have something to chew on. Milo has never hurt me with his biting. His little claws (which need to be trimmed at least every other week) hurt more than his teeth do, and that is not even that bad. Milo's fur is just as soft if not softer than a chinchilla.
: You are doing the right thing by researching before buying. That alone shows that you would be a good parent. Keep up the research and you will get all of your questions answered.
: Good luck!

Cheri,
Was your glider really that young when you got it?
I was just wondering if you had to hand feed it and stimulate it to go. Was it an orphan?
Just curious!
Michelle
