I think it can be cruel if it is not done carefully. Some people cut too much off and then the glider can't hold on to things - that does seem cruel to me. But not cutting their nails at all puts them at a higher risk for snagging their tiny feet on something and could cause them to break their legs - also cruel. I think you have to balance the two - and realize the first couple of times you cut you will probably cut too much. Just cut the tiniest little tip off each nail - if you get it right they can still hold on, but won't scratch you. I have to cut Eos's about once a week.
