Better check with the airline. Some make them travel like other pets, in the cargo hold -- that's not too good. Some dont have a problem with the cage in your lap or the overhead. An some just dont allow it period. I've heard of folks concealing the little monsters on their persons (like in a pocket, bra, or specially designed fanny packs) praying the flight is during the animals sleep period and that they dont act up or get away inflight. As far as flying affecting the animal, opinions seem to vary about the affect changing air pressure has on the glider, both
physical and emotional/mental trauma if any.
