The wood not only adds to the attractiveness of the cage, it adds stability and gives a secure surface for the wodent wheel to hang. The wood was treated with a baby safe/ glider safe coating, therefore the urine will not soak in the wood it can be wiped down And if the need should arise it can later be re-sprayed. I believe I stated that it was easy to clean/ no need to drag it into the shower and the wire IS vinyl coated. Betsy has had gliders for 3 years. All of her cages have wood. They are too BIG to put in a shower. And it is not necessary to go to that extreme. As I stated earlier, the wire IS vinyl coated. Did you not read the message in your haste to "rain on my parade"? The wood wipes off completely. Obviously, you are not interested in a cage of this quality and have been fooled into thinking that wood on glider cages is a no no. Ask Bourbon. She has seen and used Betsy's cages and travel carrier. Ask Bourbon how they look and smell. Surely after 3 years of use, if you were right, they would reek. I think you under-estimate Betsy. She is a very concerned glider owner and would not use or recommend anything she has not tried herself.
