Using gloves is better than the alternative of pulling your hand back. I used gloves with my first and didn't have any problems. In fact, when she saw me put the gloves on, she knew I was serious and would actually calm down. I could then use one hand with the glove and one without. She wouldn't attack.

I understand where the idea about not using gloves and showing no pain/fear comes from, but it isn't a bad thing. It protects you from being injured, and the glider won't feel as uncomfortable as he/she would next to your skin. To me, they were a valuable part of taming Mika.
