Bourbon,
As always, I know you are concerned about the gliders first, and I see your side of things. However, I'm not sure I understand why letting an inexperienced owner take a rescued glider. People who have never had gliders purchase them all the time - some are good owners, some are lousy owners and give their gliders up. Maybe rescuers could make sure people are educated first instead of worrying about whether they are experienced? I bet there are a lot of responsible people out there who would take a previously owned glider and love it to pieces, but can't afford 150 - 300 for one. You mentioned that this is a child - which would not be appropriate, but mightn't there be others in different situations? I'm just afraid that there are too few experienced owners to take all the homeless gliders...and at least the inexperienced person with education WANTS the glider.
This is a difficult problem with no really good solutions, and I admire you all for taking it on.
Respectfully,
Tiffany
