I have one male who is pretty rough with the females. He has never actually seperated the layers of skin... but has pulled out handfulls of hair from the females shoulder area and forearms. Fortunately, it was only the hair that broke/released and did not break the skin.

Is it possible that she was trying to get away and he was simply being insistant?
How old was she? Sometimes age has much to do with how a body reacts to 'trauma'.

In any case, good luck in bringing her back to health...
