: I talked to a breeder named Flo Perry a little whil ago and I found out that she has over 1,100 breeding pairs. I think it is obvious that she is just in it for the profit. When I went to her house she had about 32 joeys in a very, very small cage(about 18"W X 6"T X 12"D). It was very horrifying. She lives in Leona, Tx (Houston area). Just wanted to warn any potential buyers in the houston area.

WOW. 1,100 breeding pair. I thought the lady I saw in San Antonio was bad with 100 pair. I had posted about my experience with this breeder awhile back on this board. I know there are a few breeders from this area so I will specifically say the one I visited was Helen Moreno at Helens Little Critters or something like that. I was appalled by the small cages (not as small as you described) and the nasty, dirty conditions. not to mention they had no toys and they were housed in a sock ( a glider no-no). She had various other types of animals and I could tell she seemed into it only for the profit. it is sad that there are breeders out there like this. I think some pet stores would give better conditions than this. I am still in the process of writing a letter to this breeder about her facility. I don't know if it will do any good, but I feel it is my responsibility to do this.
I had tried reporting her to the USDA, but since they were out a few months earlier and found some violations, she had an alloted time to correct the mistakes. if you go to this web site https://foia.aphis.usda.gov/an_welfare/ac.aspl
and enter the breeders name or license number you can see their past inspection reports. I was upset that my breeder had been inspected 3 times and every time she had 3 to 4 violations. It's funny, by the report she must be correcting some mistakes but then having new violations. it's weird. I think I did a search of Flo Perry (Paradise Exotics??) and saw she had a few violations on her record. If I can remember these are the only places with "bad" records. i did a check of others and found that places like Glider Gulch and the other people in the group from Leona, and the ones in Houston had perfect records. CONGRATS to the good breeders out there.
Well, what advice am I giving you?? Let me see. Contacting the USDA will probably not do much good but I will suggest doing it anyways since they can have a complaint on record. Maybe writing a letter to this breeder exclaiming your feelings would help. With the size of this operation I would have my doubts if this would change anything. But what would??? Is there anyway of stopping these GLIDER FARMS were quantity and profit are the only reason for buisiness. The people who are on this list and do research know better, but alot of people still get these animals without knowing anything about them.
Anyone have an idea how this could be done. I feel like places like these will lead to this little critter becoming overpopulated and more highly regulated. Well, I am getting down from my soapbox now. any feeling out there.
Can we put a stop to these farms somehow.

Tim
