Hi,
I live in Lubbock, TX, and before that Austin, TX - both of which are unbearably hot in the summer. I leave her at home if I will be outside in the heat for any legth of time, but often take her when running errands and stuff. I bought a lite weight glider zip pocket from Pocket Fun of Fun - it has air holes in the side for ventilation. Also, I carry an eye dropper and give her water and Gatorade frequently, and juicy fruits. You need to watch for signs of dehydration, too. Once I had her at lunch with me and it was about 75, so I thought she would be okay. We were in the sun though, and she started drooping - her little ears were down and she just wasn't herself. I got her into the cool fast and got liquids in her.

I don't know about the ice pack as a daily thing...she might get too cold. Once when we were driving to Lubbock from Austin, the AC broke and it was above 100. I was sooo scared for her. We stopped and got a small ice chest and I put her on a cloth, on top of the ice, with the lid open and watched her to make sure she was okay. After a while, I took her out of the ice and kept the cloth around her - the air blowing over the warter kept her cool enough. I guess the most important thing is to use caution in the heat.

Good luck, :)
Tiffany
