If I remember right, you said you are in Austin, too. If so, have you checked with Self-Chem? They usually carry pesticides that are non harmful to animals and people. When we had ants, we got these little disk things and put them next to the cage. Eos could not get into them, but within a day, all the ants were gone. I'm not sure if they have anything for flies, but they might. Good luck!
