I think that in part, the idea is to also stop imported gliders too this country because we do have sufficient amount of them here already. It is truly amazing, that when every you talk to a local pet store, they have a waiting list a mile long for joeys. It really doesn't make sense, that we do have these excess gliders. I wonder, I know this is an old topic, but on other forums they have talked about getting lists to these pet stores on proper care and life expectancy, that maybe alot of the diet issues and fad pet owners would think twice before purchasing. SO I guess my thoughts are since these are relatively a new pet. As more education about them maybe it would change peoples thinking too. But, when you think about all the cats and dogs that are still over populated... maybe not.

Thanks....

: I know that there are a lot of great glider mommies and daddies on this board and this is not meant to be an attack but I am really concerned about all the breeding.

: Almost every time I check in to the board I am guaranteed to find post of (1)a glider that needs to be rescued (2)gliders for sale b/c owners cant have them anymore and (3)news about upcoming births of joeys.

: Though I can understand the excitement of the miracle of watching these little ones grow from birth it is really difficult for me to swallow a justification of bringing more of these precious animals into the world to live their lives in captivity while others are being put down because there are no good homes for them to go to.

: I am not unlike everyone else, I would love to have a newborn joey to raise and love but I cant turn my back on any glider that needs a home since there are so many out there.

: I do work with exotic animals, most of which are ex-pets that never should have been or animals that attractions no longer wanted and so I come across this type of difficulty a lot as all the attractions want "fresh stock" to draw in the crowds and the older animals are discarded.

: Please, please, please get your animals nuetered. The easier these lil ones are to get the more people who will make halfhazard purchases without knowing how much care gliders require.

: Please consider this carefully.
