Well atleast this is the way I saw it done on our farm. I only perticipated once, thats all it took for me to become disinterested with the procedure. After chasing the darn cow into a corral through the muck and pasture crud I would proceed to hold up it's tail. They say this acts as sort of a bit of natural anesthetic for the animal. The vet then proceeded and slit open the cows "private" with a razorblade, grab the "privates" in hand, pull on them way down and then snipped. he then sprayed on an antibiotic and then we let it go. Well that was all I needed to experience that day. it was quick but I don't know about painless. I have heard of another way they do it too but never seen it done. They look like a huge pair of walnut crackers. They actually just latch them on and crush them to pieces. I am sitting cross legged on my seat just thinking about it. All I am trying to convey is that I think this would put the animal through alot of uneeded stress and pain. I don't think that glider owners should conduct this proceedure to save the vet bill. This is just my opinion though.
