As is my habit, I spent part of today surfing the web for sites I haven't
yet
discovered and found Gliderpedia. I was surprised during my visit to
find
several passages which were copied directly from my web site.
The use of these passages is unauthorized and a copyright violation.
Copyright
infringment is, as you may know, a federal offense and we will pursue
this
matter through legal channels if necessary. Hopefully, this will not
be
required.
We will revisit your site in one week. I insist these passages be removed
by
that time.

I am sorry for this problem. Almost all of the data on the web site
was
offered by Internet people compiling it for me and there it sits. I
have very
little time to put into running the site lately and am not able to
figure these things
out by myself. Anyway, please tell me specifically where the problem
is and I
will see that it gets modified appropriately. Just so you know, sugarglider.com
does not make or bring in any money whatsoever, it is solely a pet
project of mine for
fun. If you would prefer, I could list you as the source of the
information and include appropriate links. I have been approached by
many people about
advertising, but I dont think I will go commercial with the damn thing,
I have
enough headaches as it is. I wish I had more time to make the site
great
as it has been receiving a largely increasing number of hits.

To avoid complicated issues of copyright protection, and to eliminate
concerns over losing control of our material, PAWPRINT does not authorize
use of any material for any purpose. This includes not authorizing
use of
any material on non-profit web sites, even if credits/links are provided.
This may sound like a "tough" stance, but it is a policy which we have
determined is in the best interest of PAWPRINT.
Your inability to determine what material has been taken from the PAWPRINT
Web Site, is not my concern. What is my concern is that the passages
are
there. As the owner of the web site, you are the one who is legally
responsible for the information presented. I do not have the obligation
to
tell you which passages are owned by PAWPRINT so that you can remove
them.
I also, quite frankly, have ways to utilize my time other than scanning
through your site looking for stolen PAWPRINT material.
If you do not know the origins of information on your web site, then
there
is a good possiblity you are in violation of many copyright infrigements.
I
would strongly suggest, for your own protection, that you remove ANY
material from your web site that you do not have specific, written
authorization to use or has not been written specifically for your
site. I
will also be sending email to my entire "bookmark list" of glider sites
informing them of the copyright infringemnets I found.
As stated in my prior email, the use of these passages is unauthorized
and
a copyright violation. We will pursue this matter through legal channels
if
necessary - in fact, I will be meeting with our company lawyer on May
25
and will add this to the agenda if necessary. Hopefully, this will
not be
required. You have until Friday, May 22, 1998 to remove the passages.
