I would think that maybe long term use is the problem...I think, for me, given a choice between hydrating her in an emergency and risking the liver thing, I would use the pedialyte (short-term). Of course, the best thing to do is get to a vet, where they can inject saline intraveineously (sp.) if needed.

: I recieved information from my vet that pedalyte has been proven to cause liver problems in human infants. I also recieved info from another source in Canada that they had liver problems from the use of pedalyte in ferrets. To be on the safe side (better to err on the side of caution) I would find another way to hydrate your gliders! If you are that concerned about dehydration, go to your vet and get sub Q fluid adminstered.
