: Ok, this is sort of a survey. I have been on the boards long enough to know that it seems like everyone responds to a survey. i wanted everyones opinion on this. : Ok. I have just built my cage. 30''by30''by 6 feet. Now, I want to know about sleeping quarters. : : 1. first how many glider do you have in the cage? I have 2 but my cage is not nearly as big as yours but my gliders only sleep in the cage, they have free roam of a room for them and the cage door is even always open and they come and go as they please. : 2. What do you use for them to sleep in. A pouch, nestbox, or a combination of both?
They have a nest box that we made for them but they really like the pouch too. They associate the pouch with spending time with me and will crawl into the pouch from the nestbox, so I wouldn't say they are particularly protective of their nestbox. : 3. How bonded to you are your gliders. I know this is a broad question but for instance. Does yours come out of it's sleeping area when you go to get it? Do they bite you when you come to get them? Do they like staying on you (most of the time, I understand they don't during playtime)? stuff like that. Very bonded. Even at night during playtime, they spend most of their time ON me. They love to be rubbed and even kissed. They would rather be with me then running in the room or playing with each other. It's almost like they know that I will be going to bed and then they can play with each other. : 4. Do you leave something with your scent on it where your glider sleeps? I did at first, but not now. : 5. One that I just want to see on. Does your glider use a hamster ball? Do they like it? Or do they have another toy that they like alot? No hamster ball since they have free roam of their room. There are several toys in their room but other things seem to get their attention more like climbing, especially on the plants and the screen door and gliding down. :
Ok, the point of this survey. I have been wanting to know if a glider will become more bonded if sleeping in a pouch rather than a nestbox or combination of both. I have heard that sometimes gliders become possesive of their nestbox and then don't like coming out much or bite alot when trying to get them. Just wanted to base my cage design on what I get for answers. i only want the best for my 2, but anything to help me bond with them more easily would be a plus! thanks for your time and info. : Tim I used the pouch ALOT during the first few weeks and my first glider really bonded quickly because of that. With my second baby, I didn't use it as much and the bonding was taking longer, so I started using it again more and it did speed up the process quite a bit. Like I said above, I use both now and they seem perfectly happy with both.
