: ok, let me set this straight. i am not sure it's skin cancer, but that was my breeder's best guess. : There is this thumbtack sized wart looking bump on his back. i didn't notice it when i picked him out. : it got bigger the first week and then started oozing green stuff. it's because he had started to scratch it. : in fact, there is no hair in the area because my SG has scratched it all off there. then it shrank and was very : tiny, but now it's getting bigger again. i wonder what it looks like when an SG is bitten by another SG? : does it look like what i've described? i haven't taken him to the vet, assuming our time is short. : he is 8 weeks old, and i 've had him since 6 weeks old. he is the sweetest little boy. and he even sleeps : with me at night and still cries when he is away from me. he won't eat unless i'm holding him. : the breeder said if it got to be an inch tall, that is when they put Sg's to sleep. : any advice out there? i know this is strange... : thanks. I've been a breeder for over 4 years and have seen something that sounds like this twice. Once was in a group of imports and the 2nd time was an animal that I had for about 3 yrs. Both times it turned out to be an abcess that was caused by some type of puncture or wound, (possibly a bite). Both were cured by opening the abcess and draining it. After opening it we put peroxide on it; did this for 3 days in a row and both animals recovered completely. If you feel squeamish about doing this, take your glider to a vet and ask them to see if it could be an abcess. Best of luck. Pat Todd ps....we did not put any antibiotic on it for fear the animals would lick it and have some type of problem. A vet could prescribe an antibiotic if it is necessary.
