Subject: Fruit and Leadbeaters Mix
Posted by Jumpher on June 05, 1998 at 07:24:44:

I'd like to make a fruit mixture like the Leadbeaters while fruit is cheap in the summer. I'd like to make a puree base of different fruits, apples, oranges, grapes, melons, kiwi, strawberries, banannas, pears...anything I can find at the farmers market/grocery store. Make the base in the blender and add a bit of baby cereal to thicken it. Then add a few chunks of the original mixture, put into ice cube trays and freeze. Does anyone know any problems with freezing these fruits? My grandmother wants me to leave the fruit in chunks and can it, but that requires a syrup base and I dont' think that would be good even if I use natural brown sugar. Any info on freezing fruits?

One more thing, since I have to keep a bag of mixed veggies in the freezer for my opossums, I always have that, but does freezing the veggies take away any of the nutriants? I usually just defrost them and feed, but once a week or so, I'll boil them in chicken broth for the taste and the extra nutrients the broth adds. I plan on doing this for my gliders too....

Thanks

~Jenn
