Hello Everybody,

So guess what kind of unique nest box I now have. Well I call it my "Sugar Gliders Tree House". How appropriate, huh. Let me describe to all of you what it really is. First, I found it at my local Petco Store. The item is called a 'Wooden Tree House', a product of Small Animal Kingdom Play Land. It was intended particularly for pet rodents like hamsters, mice, and so on, but I purchased it any ways. What does it look like? To begin with, there is a platform(7in X 6in X 0.5in) supported by four posts(7in, 3/4in diameter) made of wooden dowl rods. On two sides the posts are connected by series of smaller dowl rods which forms a ladder. Then on top of the platform there is a housing which resembles a small log cabin hut with an entry hole. This hut sits securely on the platform, but not permanently attached. So far, I hope you are able to visualize this neat tree house. But wait! There's more! You can't have a tree house without a swing. Well, it too has a swing. Hanging by four chains underneath the platform is a smaller wooden platform to form a swing. Well, that's my SG tree house.
Here are some of the things I like about this tree house. One, the housing can accomodate one glider comfortably and maybe two if they like being close. Two, the housing compartment can be easily lifted off of the platform so that I can conveiently access my glider as she sleeps. No more stubborn glider that clings to the cage wire or even the occasional game of catch me if you can. Now I can just lift the housing off and scoop her into my hands. There is minimal disturbance of my glider as I'm doing all this and she even stopped crabbing. Third, the swing gives her a place to perch and play. Finally, I just think it's the coolest and most unique accessory to my new cage.
Just to mention, one downside is that it is made of wood and so its lifetime might not be as long as other nest box. However, it may also provide as a source of a chewing toy, but I don't see it to be a problem.
So does anyone else have something like this. Please do share your ideas. I hope you found my SG tree house interesting.

Austin, TX glider,
Xay
