: hi.. : I've been debating wether or not I should get a sugar glider and I need some help. Currently I have two cats, a cockatiel and some fish. I don't like the fish cause they just sit there, I love my cats cause they are just so cuddly and I don't like my cockatiel cause he just pecks at stuff and doesn't like to cuddle or play. : I was just wondering a few things about sugar gliders: : ARe they going to be like my cockatiel and just sit there and not be very interesting or cuddly? : And are they going to be a real pain like my cockatiel when he goes to the wash room everywhere and really make you not want to take him out of the cage? : Thanx. Well Craig, I am an Australian who is shocked to find that Americans are keeping one of our beautiful mammals as pets. I have read on the net that apparently we Australians have been keeping Sugar Gliders as pets for years - that is not true. I think that "exotic" pet suppliers have been misleading you in this way. I hope you consider carefully the implications of purchasing a Sugar Glider. In Australia, it is extremely unusual and rare to keep native animals. Only people who serve the purpose of protecting and rehabilitating these beautiful creatures have licenses to keep them. I have read the information recommended to you and it seems that Gliders are extremely demanding to keep as pets. I am so disappointed to hear that as pets Gliders are susceptible to disease and die easily if neglected. I was searching the net for references of Gliders. I'm a using the Glider as a logo for my business in graphic design. To me Sugar Gliders symbolise freedom and when they are gliding through the air, they just go for it, no inhibitions. That's why I chose one as my symbol. It's the best thing to see one in the wild. I hope you have the opportunity one day, perhaps you already have. I have been to America, you have such a beautiful country. Please take care of your Glider if you get one, and like other owners have implied, they are a lifelong commitment, as is any animal we have as a pet. Regards, Tanya
