I've heard, although i'm not an authority by any stretch, that their behavior is extremely grounded in how they were treated when they were very young. Ultimately it may just be a case where time and patience is going to pay off. We got our first glider (we now have 2) from someone who wasn't too affectionate to her, and it took a good bit before she warmed up, but she's fine now, and always curious of what we're up to.

Also, although this may make a worse situation, I've always preferred to have a pair of animals instead of a single one since they are so social. Getting them together well can be a pain, but our first one is overall much more active and energetic with a little sister.
