Speaking from experience, the only place to obtain a glider is through an established breeder. The first time I saw a sugarglider it was in a pet store. The clerk seemed to know quite a bit about these animals and assured me that a glider was the easiest, low-maintenancepet. Luckily, After I bought the little guy, I searched the net and found out that most of what I was told was wrong. Pet stores cause an incredibly stressful environment for gliders. They are exposed to bright lights, loud children, in some cases - strange cats & dogs.

Your best bet is to find a responsible breeder. I purchsed little Annie from Pat Todd in Texas and she is the sweetest little thing on the planet.

I feel for the gliders (and other animals in pet stores), but I believe you would be much happier with a joey that has been raised by someone who loves these creatures instead of someone who is just looking for profit.

: I found a pet store nearby that sells gliders. I want to get a friend for my first glider. He's a young male that I adopted. I'm planning on taking him for his first vet check this week to see if he can be neutered so I can get a female. The pet store's gliders are obese, and crabby, and the people there don't know a thing about them- even how to sex a glider. I'm very wary of this place, but nobody else here sells them. Will breeders still sell to people in NY? I'm on Long Island and they're still legal here. Who is recommended most on the net?
: Thanks in advance, Amy and Jonesy : )
