: Today I got a new sugar glider. I dont know much about them,

: cage for entertainment for it.. I dont know if it is a male or
: female either. Is it easy to tell? It is not tame at this point

: it tremendously.. Nicole

Female, you can see a slit in the belly (it's pouch). Be sure lots of calcium and protein in the diet. Try to vary foods and avoid sweets, fats, salts. They need attention, play with your glider as much as possible or get a friend for it, does not matter if friend is male or female, but do it while it is still young and read site on how to introduce them to one another. They are creatures of night, so if you can't play with it at night, you need to turn on a light at night and trick it into thinking it is day so it will sleep...but they will get up and wait for you in the daytime if you play with them at the same time each day. Be sure you do not have the least little crack in your cage bars where they join, welded cages are best: my glider lost two toes because of this, because I did not know and they had to be amputated when they got hung in the crack. My vet says I have one of the healthiest gliders she has ever seen though, so if you would like me to email you a sample diet plan, you can email and ask me in the subject line......sharon
