Chris, he had bought a glider from a woman, that has a animal farm, she sold him the glider before it's eyes were open and he had to also hand feed it. New owners want the glider, and when the breeder tells them, by hand feeding it will imprint a permant bond, new owners jump on that. The problem with selling the glider that young, is that not only does it have to be artifically stimulated to urinate, but also if the parents don't care for them to weaning age, how will the glider know what to do with their own young? Gliders each have their own personalities, and many times a breeder don't guarantee their gliders for very long, and if the new owner isn't experienced like donna said, it many times disasterous. She was lucky, many others isn't. I know that there are certain minerals/vits etc.. that they get from mommas milk that isn't in the replacers sold. especially if using a puppy replacer vs a marsupial replacer. The marsupial replacer must be for gliders, they have different nutritional needs than a wallaby or a kangaroo. The lives of the gliders just isn't worth it.
I read on the 13th where a woman got a pair that were just pulled from the pouch, I wrote to her, and she got very defensive, but told me they were healthy and that their eyes opened fine, also said they came out of the pouch on their own and they were in the pouch 70 days.. All that was not that important, as I was worried about the gliders themselves. hand feeding a glider is an all day job, taking shifts throughout the night, regulating their body temps, and stimulating their urniary tracts., On the 17th the same woman was looking for another glider, whether or not those gliders ever made it, i may never know. But please allow the gliders to be weaned by mom, the only part the humans should play in the raising of joeys , should be just teaching it to trust people, nothing more, unless it is in an emergency siuation..
