Also consider the residual food and other nasty stuff on the bars... if any of that were to get into an open wound, you're brewing an infection.
A wild animal's instinct is to cleanse the wound, right? A civilized persons reaction is to cleanse the wound, right?
Therefore, just what would a glider be expected to do? And if the infection/irritation is bothersome or deeper/worse than can be seen... its still gonna hurt even though the general area seems to be clean.
Do they know when to stop? When it will go from being a simple cleaning - to a self-mutalation? I think not. All animals follow their instincts.


But beyond the self mutalation -
Take into consideration the health hazards/effects of the galvanized wire... Many may see the symptoms of heavy metal poisoning, few will probably recognize them for what they are. Your glider could be treated for numerous possible causes - unneccessarily.
But if the vet were to know the type of cage s/he were kept in from the start... it may be the key to life or death.

Just something to think on...
