Think a second, you're sleeping in your nice warm bed when someone reaches in and touches you......you come out screaming, scared to death, right? I don't know what kind of pouch you have right now, but your best bet is soft cloth one, so you can turn them inside out if necessary. I have found my gliders are much less defensive (offensive, however you see them) if they aren't inside the pouch. Don't startle them.....and don't put your hand inside their sleeping space, aka their pouch. They try to defend it. Once you get them outside the pouch, they generally are much more cooperative.
