What I do is to put the nail between the blades of a pair of baby nail clippers. I slide the nail across the bottom blade of the clippers until it catches or hangs on the bottom blade and that is where I clip them. In two years I have not cut them too close using this method. If by chance you do cut them too close you can pack the nail that is bleeding with flour, baking soda, or use a steptic pencil.
