The water dish behavior doesn't sound normal. If I were you, I'd continue to watch him carefully, and get him a vet appointment. He should get a full check up to make sure nothing is wrong. Also, after you make sure he's healthy, get him a glider companion if he doesn't already have one. Maybe they can keep him out of the water bowl!
