Joel, I found the same thing whenever I went to get my boy. I figured it was his willy from the descriptions I read. Well, it seems out of proportion with his glider body, lucky kid;). I think it is puberty, because it was only out when he was sleeping or just waking up or bathing. If puberty is universal to all living things (big assumption), then would it be similar to a 13 yr. old boys nocturnal erection? Being female, I've obviously never experienced this, so it is an educated guess. But, since I got my female, I have noticed it being out more often, and it has gotten a darker color the last time I saw it. Beyond that, they seem to do "things" to each other that seems odd considering my girl hasn't reached maturity yet. I'd rather not say what "things" happen, but use your imagination. Does anyone else know if that is normal behavior? I assumed it was just them getting to know eachother, but I don't want my boy forcing himself on my girl until she is ready. Tara : : I have two young male sugargliders. recently, whenever I : : wake up one of them, there is a fleshy strip hanging out : : of his rear end, which i am assuming is his genitalia. His mood : : has also changed dramatically- he sleeps much more, even : : late at night, mainly only leaving his nest to eat. he also : : used to be much more personable, and now it is tough to get him : : out of the cage to play, when before he used to jump out as : : soon as you opened the door. He had a checkup about a month : : ago, and I'm going to take him in again. It's almost as if : : he's going through sugarglider puberty. Is this possible?
: : I don't have an asnwer to your question but I can tell you that I know what you are talking about. I was planning on purchasing a male glider from a petstore a while back. He lived in a ten gallon aquarium with a food dish full of sunflower seeds and a small ball with holes in it to sleep in. When went to the store to buy the glider I asked to see him out of the ball and implying that I wanted to see them hold it. The sales person looked at me like I was crazy and proceeded to tell me that you can't hold them, they are not holding animals. Right then and there I was changing my mind of buying him if that is the kind of opinion the shop has. I knew better ofcourse after doing some research online and reading a book. When the tried taking the glider out to put in a box he started snarling and doing "the noise" from the top of his lungs and attemoting to bite the gloved hand of the pet store guy. As he was on his back in a defensive position I noticed that his genitalia was out, if that was his genitalia. I didn't know if this was the norm and decided not to buy him after all. Im glad I didn't since I know what a good time I would have had trying to bond with him. The store was asking $250 for him. That glider is still there and has been in that ten gallon tank for about 7 months or so. I don't know if the store is licensed but I know this has to be some kind of mistreatment. If anyone knows someone I can contact to report this, let me know. By the way I am located in New York.
