She can still do all the things that she has always done.

Yes this will make it easier for you to check on the baby (ies) once it/they are oop.

and will cage wires 1/2 wide keep a baby in it???

No more than 1/2 inch will be sufficient.

You will also want to put the nest box on the floor of the cage once the baby is oop to prevent it from falling should it find it's way out of the nest box. BPP has a wonderful nestler. A plastic nest box with a lifetime guarentee. Dishwasher safe and even has ventilation holes in the sides and the bottom for drainage of waste.
