Welcome Nick! First and foremost, sugargliders are a huge responsibility. They require a lot of time and MONEY to care for properly and that should seroiusly be considered before purchasing one or two. You will get what you pay for and baby gliders can range from $150-$400 just for the animal. That cost does not include a large cage(can be very expensive), food, toys, vet check-ups etc. I'm not trying to put you off but just bringing all the costs into consideration for you. If you do not want to breed your gliders two of the same sex are the best bet but be aware that they will have to establish a heirarchy and introducing them can take some time. Also if you keep them together they will most likely become more bonded to each other than to you and your friend. Breeding gliders is a serious commitment to your gliders and also to the babies ensuring that they go to caring, informed homes. You will also neeed to be USDA licensed to sell or even give away any babies. Not saying they won't make great pets, but don't set too high of expectations for them to bond to you and then end up being dissapointed. That's not to say they won't bond to you but the bond may not be as strong as if you have only one. If you do get only one be aware that you should play with the glider for at least 2 hours each night so it's not lonely. This can become quite a time commitment. I also strongly recommend searching out a good private breeder to obtain the glider from, unfortunately a lot of pet stores are not good sources for gliders. The breeder should be willing to go over everything involved in the care of the glider and will not sell any unweaned babies. The babies should come from a clean, caring environment, so be careful, there are some bad breeders out there. As far as the leash/outside thing goes. I wouldn't recommend it. If your glider would become frightened and take off on you it could get up a tree or into something you couldn't get it out of. Just use common sense. Hope I was of some help and keep researching them!! Best Wishes!!

: Hi my name is nick and i amseriously thinking about buying a sugarglider. I never knew they existed until a few weeks ago and i instantly fell in love with these animals. I always liked flying squirrels and when i found out someone could actually have one as a pet i could not wait to find out how to get one. My friend introduced them to me and now he and i are thinking about buying two of them (one for each of us). I have read a lot of things about sugargliders for the past two weeks and i have learned a lot about them so i think i am ready for one. I definately want a baby one so i can tame it myself. Do you think we should buy a male and female or two of the same sexes? And is it ever ok to take them outside without a leash? I mean do they ever get so tamed that they will not runaway once they are let go outside? If anyone has any information on where is the cheapest and best place to purchase a sugarglider please let my know! I would greatly appreciate it! Thanx, Nick
