I've taken my gliders on long car trips a few times, and we have a jeep. In fact, I took them for a 4hr trip this past weekend, and our dog too. I had made a medium sized cage similar in size to the 'travel villa' and put a wheel etc in it. In the jeep, I always keep their pouch in my lap. They are really good about staying asleep even with the bumpy ride...I only do day trips with them myself.
At my friends house, I put them in their medium cage. They hated it. They wanted out, and let me know it plainly. I ended up clearing out a closet with shelves and kept them in there at night, and in their cage during the day. I put a broom in the closet so they could go from one shelf to the other. It worked out really well.
