I have traveled several times with gliders. I do use a smaller cage in the car during the daytime since they are sleeping anyway. I have found that the large birdcage which can be broken down into two sections and then folded flat works extremely. They can be set us easily when you reach your destination. They also don't cause much notice if you happen to take them in somewhere pets aren't allowed. I have found that gliders don't really apply in this situation though.
You can also save space by not taking the bottom pan of the cage and just sitting it on newspaper or flat piece of cardboard.
Hope this helps.
