Whenever we decide to get a new pet whether it be a dog, cat, or sugar glider, we need to take on the responsibility of its care. Good housing, good nutrition, and good veterinary care all cost money. While we all hope that our sugar glider will not get sick or injuried - these things happen and we need to be prepared for the cost of this. Sugar gliders can live up to 15 years of age in captivity and it would be amazing if there wasn't a visit to the vet in that amount of time. The key to making a sugar glider better if it is ill is to make a good diagnosis and this often requires diagnostic testing (blood tests, x-rays, fecal examinations, etc..) and it is not unusual for this to cost $200-250. Once a diagnosis is made, then the best and most appropriate treatment can be used. So I think there is an age issue with ownership. I know that when I was 13, $250 was more money than I could imagine. So parents need to accept the responsibility too or you shouldn't get the pet. geoff
