In the 4.5 years I have had glider I have seen
1 person who had four have two eaten by his cat, one got out teh window and teh last one was surviving last heard but not handled at all
1 16 year old who had one glider swore blind to me that he would be responsible and give a home for life. I found out a year later that he had sold both one month later as he could not be bothered.
1 adult who bought seven then within hours was emailing me telling me that she hated gliders. She maimed one so it had no claws on its front paws. I took those from her. I found home for three males, one of whom I just heard died from "a wasting disease" according to the owner. Two of the females went to good homes including the disabled one who is in a female pair.
The other two I still have as my brood.
I also have a male and female from my pair one of whom went to a 20 year old and one went to a 16 year old. Both swore they were ready for this commitment. Within the year they were back with me ( a requirement in my later adoption speels).
So I have seen a lot of pigheaded abuse and smart like hell from it.
So I now have the five rescues, the male is neutered and lives with four females in a large cage ina colony type set up. They are very happy and friendly but due to me not their previous owners.
Too many people have no commitment and I abhor that.
: Recently I have read many posts of people saying they are getting gliders regardless of the fact that they may have a situtaion that is not the best for a glider. I have also seen several people post that they need help after buying their glider..not before hand. After reading several trading posts I have seent hat many people are trying to sell or give away adult gliders. I was wondering if anyone knew the amount of gliders abandoned each year. What are the chances of a new owner keeping a glider for more than 2 years? If you run a shelter, your information could be helpful here. I'm posting this out of concern.
