and this may include those that choose not to use a name of any sort.. below is a link, Shianne started it, it will give you a good idea, as to who we all are, what some of the pet peeves are, and where we all stand on certain issues. you can read it, but to be honest with you, all the bickering and complaining won't change who any of us are, or what any of us do. Mary said below, that she didn't understand how if someone posted a question, and recieved answers they didn't want, and they get upset.. then why ask.. that is a very valid point.. the idea of discussion groups is to get as many varied OPINIONS as possible, read them all, and make your own conclusions. The people that are being knocked here, as harsh, as some of us seem, have been here since the beginning, we all have been there when someone needed help, and have been there in the middle of the night for many more. our email boxes fill up on a regular basis. We sit here, and we listen to those whine, that can't look further than their own back yard. Over the years, we have seen many cases of instances of glider deaths that could have been avoided, we have seen new people come in and say I want a glider, buy them, have no idea what they are doing, and then when their fantasy of what they expect from their glider isn't a reality, they ditch their glider. Many of us have dedicated our lives to not only our gliders, but to others as well. The throat you are cutting today, may be the same one, that will save your gliders life tommorrow. We have seen many people come and go over the years for many reasons. Owning a glider is a mature, responsible and dedicated task. If we all have to worry about hurting someones feelings, then that in itself is very childlike. I for one will not talk to anyone here as if they were 5 years old, if it seems that way, it is only because iI am trying to explain myself to the fullest. Are some of us opinionated? YES, and IF you have your glider years from now, YOU too will understand where all the passion comes from. Which as Sadie and others have said.. comes from the love of the species. The gliders, which is what this base is about. We will speak out if we feel, that lives of gliders may be jeopardized. Some of you haven't read enough of the things that ARE happening, to judge US. We only respond to what is written, that is all we can do. So if our responses are a little off, of what you WANT to hear, it could be for several reasons.
1. that you didn't go into enough detail in your post or your post wasn't clear.
2. that some of us here, have seen the harm that could come to gliders that you may not be foreseeing.
3. That you may be looking for someone to agree with you, after others haven't and your already on the defensive.
4. It is an issue that some of us are very animant about.
you see, we see many people come in and say I want a glider, we tell them the TRUTH about what to EXPECT, we send them on their way to researching, not only the good, but the bad as well. and many times we see them only read what THEY WANT to read, the good. Gliders are very unique animals with very unique needs in captivity, and that is STILL being researched by many of us. We started a page called Real Stories, that page is by far one of the most important pages I have seen in a long time, These are the stories of glider owners just like you and I, who have had to deal with the hardships of the unknowns, accidents, common health problems. Read them, each one of them, read each one as if it were your glider that, that story is about, because it just may be. We cannot stop accidents from happening, but if ONE glider is saved from any of those stories, then that page is worth it. Many gliders have been saved, from stories that people with HEARTS have written. They didn't write them for their benefit, they wrote them in hopes to save yet another glider. If you owned a business, you would want to hold on to your best employess. Look at these people here like me, and others, that have our passions, our loves and our fears, as just being one of those employees that is looking out for the best intest of your company. After all Gliders are our business, not neccessarily for the money, but we have chosen them to dedicate our lives to. For those of you who after reading this and those two links, still don't understand who we are, what we do, and that the gliders are our main concerns.. well I am sorry.. and to be honest, I really don't care, for all I care about is the gliders. I will, as will many others here, continue to fight for the gliders as a whole..
