I to have experiened this, I could not find ungalvinized wire mesh where I live. So I used it. I have not had any problems with it. I have been watching very carefully and there are no chew marks, and I have never seen them chew on it. To be safe you could spray a little bit of Bitter Apple on it, this is a taste deterrent you can find or order at pet stores. Hope this helps.
