"Cannibalism. This problem is the result of inadequate diet and/or confined space, or overstocking of the space. The latter may be aggravated if it is unclean. It should be added that poor mothering instincts are genetic, but cannibalism is usually environmental. The stressed mother's state may prompt her to abandon or kill her babies for what may be the slightest provocation. She is at her limits of coping. It needs little extra mental pressure for her to turn on her offspring."
