I am trying to get more information on gliders and have read all the general info. I think you all agree that every glider is different but I am sure their are similar habits and traits. At least if you email or post, I will get an idea on some questions of what is commom or possible when owning a glider. First here is the background of why I am considering a glider. First off I am used to having dogs. I love the companionship they can provide. BUT after my dog passed, I went a few years without a pet. Later my schedule has changed to were I need the freedom to travel for a week or so away from home. My career is a magician. So I also thought that I could have him in the show. This would be great to add a talk on exotic animals for the school programs. I have had the standard RABBITS and DOVES but feel they are not a PET. The sugar glider seems to BOND which attracted me to it. PLUS it is SMALL and from what I read, and does not mind traveling with you. It would actually help to have a pet that could also be in the show. Than I would not have to SNEAK it everywhere. SO the first question is: If they sleep all day, can the be awakened? OR is it like a cat. Cats are nocturnal but will get up if you wake them. Cats can play for a while but then go back to sleep. DO gliders act the same way? I have heard the will be very upset if you wake them. Second question: As a pet, how can you spend the time if they are awake when you are asleep. That is , if they do not wake until 10 pm, I do not see why everyone brags what great pets they are. Staying up until 2 am just so she has a playmate seems like it can cut into sometimes NEEDED sleep. Again, if they ONLY let you play in the middle of the night, why do they say these guys make great pets? I am not being judgemental but this seems to be the one "non traditonal" trait of a good pet. Can they tolerate bright lights or sun? I know they do not prefer it but is it as extreme as some say?
