I do not own a glider yet but here is a quote from Helen O'Reilly's book A NEW OWNER'S GUIDE to SUGAR GLIDERS. It was also confirmed by Stan Bladek a Vet friend of mine. "Do not use cedar shavings as the phenols in them can adversely affect the respiratory system, heart and lungs. The same is true, to a lesser extent, with white pine, though its low cost makes it a currently popular choice. Sawdust should be avoided because it can cling to moist foods, as well as being abrasive to the sexual organs and the pouch of breeding females. Sand and clay or silicon cat litters are other coverings not recommended for these pets because of their abrasiveness and/or health dangers." She recommends natural wood fiber, granulated paper, or plain paper.
