I have spayed a number of sugar gliders and have not any problems except two messed with their sutures but the wounds healed fine anyway. I take care to avoid the pouch when doing the surgery. I don't believe that it is any more risky than spaying a dog or cat if you have the correct instrumentation and knowledge of the differences in anatomy (e.g. lateral genitaliae).
