I would go ahead and put them inside of the new cage if you are certain they can't escape and can't get caught on anything. Not sure how big they are but if they are like my friends little one they should be fine in my opinion. Course my friends has little squares in her wiring that are half inch. I don't know how big your spacing to your new cage is. That is also something to consider.
