he doesn't know about the pretty pets short of what he has been told in probaly their literature.., Someone on the sga gliderlist had it tested and found that it was nothing more than a juvenile iguana food, ... but as jane said he has approved the diet you are on,... Jane when my vet takes a urine sample she also checks for blood in the urine, it is a sign of a uniary tract infection, my vet checks for each on her regular exams.. I do however have to agree, that
1. the oldest glider life span is way off, but i also have to agree with him, that the early deaths mainly ARE caused from a bad diet.. we all know that to be fact.
2. That he should not endorse a food, that so little info is known about. the research site that they have listed on the package.has a link regarding the research involved.. is a non existant page., that oin itself should make him concerned. The only research they talk about is with birds. Pretty pets is a bird food company..
3. I myself would stay with a diet that has been used for years with great success, how many people have you heard of that has used pretty pets glider food for that long?
She will just have to follow her heart. and ask herself, if her glider was on the bottom of the cage at 2 in the am, would she trust this vet be able to help it? Would she trust that vet? Would he be willing to consult with other vets..? Maybe he himself is running on old and outdated info..finding a vet that has ever seen gliders is one thing.. finding a GOOD vet that has ever seen gliders is quite another. I do not believe that just any vet can treat a glider, that vet must be willing to learn.. from their clients as well as other vets.. If she don't feel comfortable with his advice, with the diet, chances are there will always be doubt where other things are concerned as well... We had an incident here where we had a vet that had seen gliders before, BUT, he wasn't williong to research, or talk with others.. We did find a GREAT vet that has been reading everything she can, as well as building her own list of resources for info.. I must tell you, she whole heartedly endorses the bourbons leadbeaters.. after consulting various vets and researchers and telling them the ingrediets, the majority said it was a sound food, for as much as we know about diets to this date..Not that other diets are not good, some are.. but you have to learn no so much as to what is good, but what is not...
