I think you're probably just a little scared, but you are completely doing the right thing by taking him to the vet. If you are worried about anything you should ask your vet. It's a lot better than finding out he has the mites, when it's too late to save his ears. So, better safe than sorry. About that thing they put right in the cage for the birds...I wouldn't use it unless you check it with your vet first. I've had parrots, and we used those for them, but it is toxic to a lot of different small animals. I think you are doing great, just ask your vet before useing the mite controls stuff.
