I'm afraid I wasn't very well prepared. I never heard of gliders until my sister told me a guy had a pair expecting babies and had to get rid of them. She recommended me to him. Of course, I was all for the idea, but my husband wasn't. The guy sold them before I could convince my husband I really had to have them. After I convinced him, I went looking for one and found Gizmo. He was 9-10 mos old and this woman's daughter no longer had time for him. I bought him the day after I saw him. Had to go home and get a cage, food, etc. ready. The whole process was only a matter of 2-3 weeks of research. Fortunately, I found this and several other sites early on, or might have killed my darling.
