I would advise not using the candle and removing the plants until they have been treated and are free of chemicals. Here's why I would do that: I had an unscented votive candle sitting on the hearth of the fireplace and noticed one of the gliders playing in it and chewing the candle. I did move it but since they do have a tendancy to chew on most anything, I would not run the risk of their chewing on this bug candle. It would seem to me that whatever is used in it would not be good for them.
Personally, I wouldn't run the risk.
