: I got my new glider, "Pockets," Yesterday. He lets me pet him and seems to like
: it, but when I tried to scoop him up to ut him in a pouch this morning, he crabbed
: at me and ran off. What should I do?Also, I have a fishtank in my room, and It's mostly
: covered, but there are openings large enough for the glider to get into. How should I
: go about covering it? I don't want to use cardboard, because it will get soggy from evaporating
: water. What should I use? Also, can sugargliders climb straight up a regular wall?
: Not brick or anything, just a normal wall? Has anyone here taught a glider to come
: when you call it or anything like that? Just wondering. As soon as I cover the fishtank my room
: will be fully glider proofed. Then I'll let him out to play with me.

Good Luck with your glider! I have 2 males and we let them out at night in our living room. We have a small fish tank in there and there is a small opening at the top of it as well. One of my gliders is fascinated with it. Just about the first thing he does when he gets out is go to the top of the shelves to the tank and its up there staring at the fish. He loves it! Anyway, we just watch him when he is up there to be ready to scoop him out if he fell in. He has never made any move to go inside but it could happen accidentally. I don't know if watching him around it is an option for you or not.

I think they can climb bare walls, at least part way up. I have seen mine do it. I have an entertainment center over 6 ft tall and they can scale the smooth side of it.

As for getting them to come to you, mine are not completely bonded yet. I have never heard or read of anyone like calling out to them and getting them to come, but I can get mine to glide to me. I get where they can see me, pat my chest and leave my hands still at my sides. They glide on to me from wherever they were.

Have fun!
