You'll soon know when you have to trim your gliders nail when it starts to have problems moving about on your clothing. It is very dangerous to ignore such grooming practice. As far as what the breeder said about going a year without clipping nails, I think he/she may have said that in order to make you feel better about getting a glider, especially from him/her.
