Shasta is six weeks out of the pouch. We just got her last Tuesday. We got her for our other glider(the one that died) the same day we got her a new cage. Gia took to Shasta very well and was happier than we had ever seen her. But four nights later, when Shasta was a sleep, Gia got out of her cage. She went into the living room for some reason and my parent's dog was in the house. We think she died of a heart attack. Someone had left the cage door open that night. But Shasta was asleep. When I found out what had happend, I nearly died too. My heart is in a million pieces. We only had Gia for 2 months before this happend. Now I am so depressed i cry every single day. I feel so sorry for Shasta because she is so young and has been taken away from her parents, and then Gia all in a week. So I can see why she is the way she is, but I don't know what to do. Gia was 8-10 weeks out of the pouch when we got her, and she bonded with me in 3-4 days. Shasta is 6 weeks, and won't let me touch her without crabbing, bitting, and running away from me. I've done the pocket thing and just when we think we see progress, she runs or bites the hell out of me. I'm trying to be patient but I'm so scared she won't give me affection in return. Gia was my best friend and she loved me, so it is hard to ajust to the death of Gia and the behavior of Shasta. We are giong to get her a companion once she is tame, but getting her to tame is hard. I'm also concerned that she won't bond with us, and will die of loneliness. I could not handle another death. We've even thought about selling her, but that might be to stressful on her. We've made sure that she can't get out of her cage and we are moving to an apartment with no animals but gliders. But what is the next step? Do you think she will ever bond? Or is she a problem child? Thank you for reading this.
