It's too bad when gliders are so poorly taken care of that they forget their hygene (sp?)...thank goodness they have you to take care of them! Whether or not you are supposed to bathe them is a subject of much debate (obviously!) but I'll tell you my experience. My little Foster used to love to sit on his behind, tail wrapped under him, and roll his fruit up onto his belly to eat it. It was adorable to watch, but a mess to clean. His baby sister liked to lay on her side and wrap her body around the food and eat. (They were quite a fun pair.) Foster did clean himself, but not compulsively. After eating like that all of the time, after a few weeks he would have sugary fruit left all over the place on his belly. He never quite got the hang of being an immaculate groomer. Anyway, I called the breeder to ask what to do, and he told me how he bathed them. I posted it all the way back I think in April or May, in a post titled "Guide to Bathing Sugar Gliders for Dummies :)". As you can tell by the title, that was back when everyone on this board were friends and knew a lighthearted joke when they saw one! Anyway, It's all there. I bathed Foster 3 times, and he was never the worse for wear... in fact, he LOVED the attention afterwards. It's very important they not catch a chill, so I would carry him around in a towel for a half hour after his bath and blow hot air on him and snuzzle him to death. It also helped him associate a bath as a good thing, so it never bothered him. So check back through the old posts and find it...I hope you have the same luck with the older gliders that I did with my little Foster! Good luck! Kim S. :)
