spend the time before you get your glider to research them thoughly, I am not talking about just the generalities, Bird cages are dangerous for gliders their heads are able to get through the bars but they may break their necks trying to get it out..you wrote " I heard that gliders may nip when they are young, like a puppy. Is this true? How would I discourage it? With my family's dog, we just tapped her on the nose when she nipped. Not to hurt her, just startle. After a few weeks she kept the nipping to a bare minimum (mostly when she got too excited while playing or wrestling). Anyway, would something to that effect work with a glider? I wouldn't do anything that would hurt the glider or diminish its trust in me. Please tell me if this is too "cruel" for a nippy glider." is this cruel YES you really need to go all the way back to the january archives and read each and every post as if you were the one asking the questions you will find deterants to the nipping.. BY THE WAY... Nipping is sometimes not as sugar coated as you may want to think, they sometimes bite so hard they will break the skin, draw blood and bite right to the bone, and as an added plus while you are trying to get it to trust you, you must stand there and LET it do it.. no matter how painful it may be. there are ways to deter it but you must do it while it is biting you and you can't pull away while it is biting. Tapping on the head, nose etc.. isn't even an option. they are soo small you may hurt it and with glider you CAN NOT use any NEGATIVE reinforcement. They must always feel loved and feel safe with the owner. if you hit it once you may never earn it's trust. You will have succeeded to only make it meaner. RESEARCH MORE...there was post not even a month ago that discussed this very issue.. ReSEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH FIRST AND ALWAYS..If you don't want to take the time to research the back posts, what makes you think you will take the time to spend with your glider. READ RESEARCH LEARN FIRST before you even think of getting 1 let alone 2..
